Christmas Tours in the Bryn Athyn Historic District

During the month of December 2017, tour availability and hours of operation may be altered during the season due to demand, weather, special events and additional church services. Some dates are not available. To avoid disappointment, reservations are required for guided tours during the month of December. The itinerary for your visit can be customized to best serve your group, including one, two, or all three guided tours. See below for a full listing of closed dates or call 215-947-2004.


Christmas Tours in the Bryn Athyn Historic District

Cairnwood Estate

Guided Christmas tours at 10:00 & 11:00 am (75 minute tour)
Self-guided tours Sunday 12:00 – 5:00 pm, Wednesday & Thursday 1:00 – 4:00 pm

Cairnwood Holiday Tea: Sundays, December 3, 10, & 17 at 12:00 and 2:30 pm, Wednesday & Thursday at 12:00 pm. Reservations required.

Glencairn Museum

The 45-minute guided “Christmas in the Castle” tour is available weekdays at 1:00 & 2:30 pm, and weekends at 1:00, 1:30 and 2:30 pm. Reservations strongly recommended.

The World Nativities and Do You See What I See? Imagery in Nativity Scenes exhibitions are self-guided and open to the public daily from 12:00 to 4:30 pm. Access is included with tour admission.

The Museum will be closed December 11, 12, 24 and 25.

Cairnwood By Candlelight at Cairnwood Estate

Explore historic Cairnwood at its most sparkling time of year. Kick off the holiday season with yuletide desserts and refreshments served in candlelight, festive Christmas trees and décor throughout, and a special exhibition, Fantasy and Flair; Three Generations of Cairnwood Fashions.

Homeschool Day Open House at Glencairn Museum

Share time with other homeschool families while enjoying exclusive access to Glencairn's Christmas exhibitions, and hunt for answers to our popular Nativity Quest and win a prize. Explore areas of the Museum that feature the Christmas story in art, and talk with our guides about the history and meaning of these scenes. Get creative with a Christmas project you can take home.

Scandinavian Christmas Tree Ornaments workshop at Glencairn Museum

Make traditional Scandinavian Christmas ornaments you can take home to decorate your tree. Participants will learn about Swedish straw ornaments, and weave hearts and harvest knots. Younger participants can make paper woven-heart baskets, a 19th-century Danish tradition that has now spread to other countries. A guided “Christmas in the Castle” tour is included as part of the workshop, as well as exclusive access to the Museum’s World Nativities and Do You See What I See? Imagery in Nativity Scenes exhibitions and Nativity Quest.

Tickets will also be sold at the door on December 12, subject to availability.
Take part in a tradition as rich as it was eight decades ago, when Raymond and Mildred Pitcairn first welcomed family, friends and the local community into their home for the “Glencairn Sing.” This year's program will once again feature the “Glencairn Horns” (including newcomer Steven Franklin, currently enrolled in the Curtis Institute of Music, on trumpet, and current and former members of the Philadelphia Orchestra) interspersed with other ensemble performances, soloists, audience caroling, and readings from the Christmas story.
